Patina of Presence
Patina of Presence explores the human figure as a site of transformation, where vulnerability, resilience, and endurance emerge through the interaction of material and time.
The series presents figures through the reactive processes of iron and copper, with material and time acting as co-creators. Each piece emerges through oxidation, staining, and controlled erosion, revealing surfaces marked by fracture, corrosion, and chromatic transformation. Figures are suggested rather than fully depicted; edges blur and features dissolve, shifting the focus from individual identity to the states and traces of human experience.
Iron provides structural weight, while copper introduces subtle shifts in tone and texture, emphasizing process as both subject and medium. Erosion functions as a generative force, revealing depth, surface variation, and the passage of time. Collectively, the works frame the body as an evolving site, where endurance is measured not in permanence, but in the capacity to persist while visibly altered.
Each painting is executed on canvas layered with oxidized iron and copper, measuring 40 × 120 cm. Through the interplay of material and process, the series makes tangible the invisible marks of human presence, memory, and transformation.
